Diet Scotland was established 19 years ago by Lorraine McCreary as a natural development of a long standing career at senior level within the NHS in a large teaching hospital (Southern General University Hospital Trust now the QEUH) in Glasgow, and also after 6 years as Guest Lecturer within the Bio-Sciences Department at Glasgow Caledonian University.
Dietitians are qualified to degree level and beyond and are the recognised experts in nutrition in health and sickness employed within the NHS. They are governed by The Health Professions Council along with Physiotherapists Radiologists and other Health Care Professionals.
Diet Scotland only uses the services of qualified and registered health care professionals to ensure evidence based, effective intervention, whether for lifestyle benefits or in consultation with your GP or hospital during bouts of ill health.
Our association with Cognitive Behavioural Therapists has expanded our remit and allowed a truly holistic and inclusive approach to helping attitude and behaviour change.
Lorraine has specialised in Eating Disorders since 2008 having been Lead Dietitian at The Priory Glasgow, and operated as part of South Lanarkshire's NHS Multidisciplinary Eating Disorders Team on a part time basis allowing Diet Scotland to offer the best, most evidence based approach to emerging, relapsing or recovering ED's. Patients benefit from 30 years of knowledge, learning and networking at a senior level in multiple disciplines.
Covid-19 has had a substantial affect on many individuals, the pressure it has exerted on patients with Eating Disorders has been unparalleled. The fall out continues even though the situation has moved on.
Enquiries around side effects of Covid have been overwhelming and commonly, changes in taste and smell acuity (Anosmia) are being frequently reported with associations affecting appetite, mood and behaviour.
